Decaf Coffee:

White Scribbled Underline

What to Look For

Decaf allows you to enjoy coffee without all the caffeine. Here's 3 things to consider before you sip!

1

There are two main processes for decaffeinating coffee. One is chemical processed, which is common because it's cheaper. But what is saved on cost is sacrificed in flavor. The other is water-processed, which is more environmentally sound and guarantees better flavor.

How It's Processed

Decaf coffee roasts differently than regular coffee, which alters the typical, tell-tale signs that roasters look for to determine what stage the bean is at in the roasting process. So, don’t be alarmed by the darker appearance of decaf. The beans likely look darker than they are in flavor.

Since coffee is naturally caffeinated, it is not possible to find 100% decaffeinated coffee. A regular, 8-ounce cup of drip coffee averages 95 milligrams of caffeine, while a cup of decaf averages only 2 milligrams. So while it's significantly lower, decaf isn't caffeine-free — something to keep in mind!
